Promotion Sunday and Your Role

In just a few days, we'll have several upcoming 7th graders join us in youth group. Many - perhaps just like some of you were - are nervous about joining youth!

With that in mind, here are a couple of areas our current youth can work on:

1. Remember the Bible commands us to be kind.

Ephesians 4:32 states, "And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you."

You really can't fully fulfill the command to be kind while still remaining in your comfort zone. When these new youth move up, take action by going up to them, introducing yourself, and welcoming them to youth group. A small action can mean a lot to a new member.

2. Remember each member of the Body of Christ is important.

1 Corinthians 12:12 states, "For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ."

Paul reminds us in 1 Cor. 12 that the church is made up of individuals, and, though we all have different roles, we all are of equal value. Each one of those incoming 7th graders has a specific area of service that God can use them in. We need to let them know we value them and desire for them to have a meaningful place of service within church and youth group.

Challenges to consider:

1. Introduce yourself to a 7th grader you've never met before and welcome them to youth group.

2. Make them feel valued by encouraging them to use the giftings God has for them.
